Thessaloniki

The big city with variation

Thessaloniki has something for everyone! This is a vibrant city with the perfect combination of history, culture, entertainment and shopping. The city is beautifully located by the sea and is referred to as the cultural capital of Greece.

Thessaloniki is Greece’s second largest city, with Athens being the largest, and throughout history, the city has been a major hub. The nice harbour is today one of the region’s most important, here you can walk along the wide harbour boardwalk and imbibing the lovely atmosphere and the beautiful view.

In the city, there are plenty of attractions to discover, The White Tower is perhaps the city’s most famous symbol and landmark. The tower is located by the sea and was once a prison, but is now an art and historical museum.

The Ladadika district is the hub of the city and you can find here the largest meeting place, the Aristoteles Square, where tourists and locals meet. Cosy taverns and nice restaurants are close and in the evening there are several bars and trendy nightclubs to visit.

If you want to combine your trip with beach life then there are several nice beaches outside the city. For example, just a few kilometres away you find Epanomi Agia Triad and Michaniona. Many of the beaches have been awarded the EU Blue Flag, which means that the beaches have high standards and clean water.

Our handpicked hotels are mainly in central Thessaloniki, but we also have hotels closer to the airport and near the beach, to give you a hotel that suits you.

Tip 1 Palati is a very nice restaurant in the Ladadika district. Greek live music is played here every evening and the menu consists of Greek specialities. Enjoy good souvlaki and don’t forget the Ouzo!

Tip 2 Ferries depart from the city to the Greek islands. Take the opportunity to visit Santorini, Mykonos or Crete.

The best time to visit

All year round. But the best time for sunbathing is May-September when the temperature is at its hottest.
